Alexa decided our first challenge should be scones. This is a base recipe, we can all just decide how to make it your own and get crazy with it as you wish. 🙂
About Alexa
I was born and raised in a small town in Colorado, a state that will always have a piece of my heart. I have always loved baking, ever since I can remember. When I was 10 my mom bought me baking books as my gift for Christmas. I didn’t have the same passion for cooking until I got to college and had to cook for myself, but once I started cooking more I fell in love with it. My husband, Josh, and I are admittedly, food snobs. But I think that’s a good thing, it has given us a common interest and passion to seek out the best foods and creations. We love trying new restaurants, recipes and exploring just about every type of food there is. I love being a mom to my town boys, Miles and Mason, and love seeing their curiosity for food watching them explore the world of flavors. I have a goal to one day create a cookbook, even if I am the only one who sees it.
Alexa what will be the focus of your cookbook? All foods? Desserts?
Everything 😊
Buttermilk lemon and lavender scones! They turned out great! Great balance of lemon and lavender with our being too sweet. I would maybe change the bake temp and or time, they got a little dark on the bottom. But still delicious.
I made blueberry lemon scones, they turned out delicious!
I also made a lemon blueberry scone with lemon and orange zest. I weighed my flour and used 50 grams of rye flour and 200 grams of all-purpose flour. I wish I had put a glaze on them.
So pretty Vera 🤤
Thanks!! I ate way too many pieces… just couldn’t stop! 😆
Raspberry with cacao nibs and a vanilla cream glaze. I loved the fresh raspberry taste and hint of chocolate. Not overly sweet. I like how easily these come together
That combination of raspberries and chocolate sounds amazing!!
I finally made the scones and I chose blueberry buttermilk. It turned out better than any scone I have tried before. Thanks Alexa for the recipe.
I had some raw sugar and a frosting drizzle that I added to the tops. Delicious!!
I went with a the classic blueberry. I brushed with buttermilk and sprinkled with sugar, but would like to try with a glaze. I also used buttermilk in the main recipe, but would be curious to see if there is a difference using cream. I need a side by side comparison, for science.
Maria, congratulations on being the first to comment on the inaugural monthly mental bakedown challenge.
I do, however, have a question regarding the timing of your post. Thinking about a snack at 2:24am on Valentine’s Day are we? Ok. I see you. 😉
